Internet
Relay Chat
Internet Relay chat or IRC, is worldwide chat network
which is run on several networks all over the world. In order to use IRC
you need a CLIENT program, the best of these is mIRC. You can get this
from http://www.mirc.co.uk. If you
are running Windows 95 and using a 16 BIT WINSOCK, YOU MUST GET the16 bit
version. The 32 bit version WILL NOT WORK. You can download either version
of the client program DIRECTLY from this site.
mIRC Version 5.02- For
Windows 95 using dialup networking
mIRC Version 5.02- For
windows 3.1 OR win95 using a 16 bit winsock
Another Irc client program which I would not recommend is Pirch. It is
less configurable than mIRC, however some of you may like it better than
mIRC, so here it is!
Pirch32- For Windows 95 using dialup networking
Scripts are just plain text files that can be included
in the initialization file of your IRC program that automate things that
you would otherwise have to type manually. Such things as Mass messaging,
Channel operator kicks and bans, and ascii's can be made with a click of
a button. War scripts are used on IRC to gain control of a channel, or
to just have some fun! It's always nice to send a text flood in a busy
channel! In mIRC, INI files can be modified yourself by clicking on the
icon.
